Wintertime

The clocks went back an hour today and I didn't realise until this afternoon. So I was up early!

I knew I had a lot of timepieces, but now that I've just changed them all, I realise that I have far too many. Two in the kitchen, two in the living room, three (!) in my craft room - tempus fugit in there - one in the spare bedroom, two in my bedroom plus my wristwatch and the two telephone handsets. That makes 13 - unlucky for some - namely the person who has to set them all back an hour!

Apart from that onerous and unexpected task, I've been occupied in the last few days with making some voodoo doll pincushions...

You remind me of a man...

I just love them - they're a free pattern from here.

Well it DOES seem that winter has started today - it's been cold and damp and I had to light the wood burner.  Of course the cat, who is tired out after a recent battle in which she was, at least, on the winning side...

Battle of the Bathroom...

...has claimed the warmest seat for herself.

Summer's Back!

I know that because the mower's broken again.  Grrrr!!!!!!  Philippe came and picked it up this afternoon.  You will note that we are now on first name terms 😊

This time it's the new cable that they put in - it has pulled out of its fixing.  I hope they don't charge me for this, I'm getting a bit fed up with the mower saga.

I may write a book...

I've been dashing about today.  First I went to Jersey Laitiere again to take some butter pats to hang on the wall.   The lady (I must ask her name) was making mint choc chip ice cream...

Tomorrow they are making butter so I'm aiming to go again. 🙂

Then I went to the Confolens Intermarché for petrol and some bits of food, and on the way home, Janet phoned me with a suggestion that we meet for lunch.  So off I went to Bellac, where we discovered that the place we had in mind was closed!  But, heigh ho, we went round the corner and found a little place where they made us a 3 cheese pizza from scratch - and it was delicious!  then we had a look round Maximum (a charity shop) and Janet bought a gorgeous walnut wardrobe. Just have to arrange collection and delivery to her new house now. I wish I had taken a photo, it is really lovely.

It's a beautiful evening tonight, and the forecast for the rest of the week is good too, so I really think it may be summer again...

I Need a Hero

The end of a relationship is always sad - a total eclipse of the heart in most cases. But, like Bonnie Tyler and Princess Fiona, I'm holding out for a hero...

Jersey Cream

Yesterday afternoon I went with a friend to a little coffee shop - way out in the countryside near Availles-Limouzine.  It is called Jersey Laitiere. A really sweet little place, with old-style decor...

Jersey Laitiere, Availles Limousine

I had a cup of coffee and he had tea,and there was a selection of home-made cakes and biscuits available too, though both of us had recently had lunch, so we didn't try those.

The place is delightful and the owner is very welcoming. I highly recommend a visit.

The shop is  open 7 days a week, 9.30 - 12.00 and 14.00 - 17.00.

Make a visit - you won't be disappointed!

Life-Changing

Did you ever have a life-changing moment?

Mine was eleven years ago, on April 19th 2006 when my husband Richard died. I've written about this before, so I won't go over it all again, but his birthday was 29th July and he would have been 57 this year, so I can't help but remember how life changed completely for me that day.

Now I need to remember that time, but not let it rule my life any more - I need to change my life and be happy again. So I am thankful for today and I'm going to start making the changes that I need to make, starting today.

Back to the Music

Always was one of my favourite songs...

Yes, I'm back to the music - silence isn't really my thing!

Today is forecast to be 32 degrees and it's already hot.  Fortunately I watered the garden late last night (11.30 pm) after I got back from the Marché des Producteurs in Le Dorat.

Marché des Producteurs, Le Dorat

Lots of people were there, as usual, but somehow they never seem to see me. In fact a friend messaged me to say that she had looked for me but not found me - and her SO was in my photo! (he's the one on the right in the white T-shirt). Sometimes I think I have an invisibility cloak!

My friend, Janet, and I had a great time despite that, and lots of laughs trying to see if there was any man there that we could face waking up to in the morning.  Needless to say - there wasn't!!!

I baked two cakes yesterday too - I was just in the mood and I had some huge free-range eggs I had bought in HyperU in St Junien that were just perfect for Delia's Cherry cake recipe.  Always a success!

I also made a Beetroot Chocolate cake (and judging from the number of beetroot in my potager, there will be many more) from this recipe...

Beetroot and chocolate cake

It was really chocolately and fudgy like the very best Brownie you have ever eaten.  I highly recommend it!  I am freezing the Cherry cake, but the chocolate one has already been half eaten by friends!

Well,  I'm off for a coffee at Mon Chic Cottage now, taking the rest of the cake with me for any lucky person who happens to be there.

Today there's No Music

For the first time in a very long while, I have not listened to any of my music. I'm not sure why - normally I play my music through iTunes all day.  I am a great lover of music, mainly modern 'pop' balladic-type songs - music with a message.  I recently bought some Adele, some Willie Nelson and an Ed Sheeran CD.

I often think that the music makes up for not having a Significant Other in my life, although sometimes it makes me sad just listening to it.  No music makes up for human company, especially the company of someone who shares your likes, your loves and your dreams and with whom you feel happy, peaceful and comfortable.

Of course I have my cat...

But we talk a different language and her dialogue mostly revolves around food and the little dead shrews she brings me to show what a brave hunter she is.  And that isn't the same thing as a meaningful dialogue with another human being.

I AM in a kind of limbo today as I have to take my car in this afternoon for its CT, which is the bi-annual test out here for road-worthiness.  I'm hoping it will pass!  So perhaps that is why I have hardly noticed the lack of music.  I'm just writing this quick blog post before going out, as I am a bit of tired of the crochet shawl I have been labouring over.  I'll show you a picture of that next time maybe. It's a new pattern called the Moonlit Shawl by Sandra Paul of Cherry Heart. I'm doing the 4ply version with some variegated sock wool in an Alpaca and Merinomix yarn. It's really soft and light.

Must go now for thatcar test - catch you later...
